For the 34th daily installment of Big Wheel Blading’s Inline Skating and Life During COVID-19 series we talk to Piotr Mostowiec. Piotr is a 44-year-old inline skater living in Warsaw, Poland. He skated 7,334 miles (11803 km) in 2018 and 7,135 miles (11,484 km) in 2019 to take 3rd place in both years Big Wheel Blading Inline Skating Distance Challenges.

What is the current situation with COVID-19 in Poland?

As of April 30th, Poland has over 12,800 confirmed cases in Poland, of which about 2,400 cases are in Warsaw alone. The borders are closed, they’ve closed parks and squares, people are staying at home as instructed and the city streets are deserted. This is a plus for skating because there are lots of empty streets that you can move freely on during the current situation. Sports and activities are allowed but limited to 2 people and they must keep 2 meters (6.5 feet) apart.

What precautions are you taking to stay safe while out skating?

For me, inline skating is freedom and an escape from everyday life. To stay safe I skate alone in remote locations, while getting in touch with nature. When I’m out training I avoid contact with any people I may come across.

What would make you stop skating?

Until there are no official prohibitions and my exit from the house is reasonably safe and free I am going to continue my trips for the sake of mental health.

Do you have anything you’d like to add?

Greetings to all the lovers of inline skating. I wish everyone good health in these hard times.
